Embroidering a New Destiny - Hina’s Path to Empowerment

In many parts of the world, women with no financial opportunities often find themselves vulnerable, relying on family members for survival. Without access to income, they struggle to make their own decisions or shape their futures. However, with the right support and skills training, they can quickly transition from dependency to becoming earners, changing their lives and inspiring those around them. Hina’s journey is a testament to this transformation.

Hina Bibi of Pakha Ghulam Peshwar, grew up facing immense hardships. Orphaned at a young age and struggling with financial instability, she relied on her brothers for support. They worked in Adda factories, crafting intricate embroidery, and soon decided to teach Hina the skill to help her become self-sufficient. As their workload increased, they started working from home, allowing Hina to practice alongside them. With their encouragement, she slowly mastered the art of embroidery.

I remember the first time I completed a design all on my own. It wasn’t perfect, but my brothers praised me. That gave me the confidence to keep going. Hina Bibi

Her dedication soon bore fruit when her brothers started paying her 500 pkr per week for assisting them. This small but steady income gave her a sense of independence for the first time. Though life had been tough, Hina was determined to use her skills to build a more secure future.

One day, a Female Social Organizer (FSO) from UNFPA’s supported Women and Girls Friendly Spaces visited her neighborhood, conducting a session on mental health and job skills programs. During the discussion, the FSO introduced various opportunities, including an Adda work training program. Hearing about it, Hina decided to improve her skills.

I felt like this was my chance, I had learned so much from my brothers, but I wanted to refine my skills and explore new techniques.

She joined the 15-day training program, where she learned advanced techniques such as Pepal Gharii, Arri work, and fabric painting. This training not only enhanced her embroidery skills but also expanded her artistic vision.

With newfound confidence, Hina started receiving more orders. Determined to perfect every detail, she poured her heart into her work. One particular order—a beautifully embroidered frock—earned her 10,000 rupees in just one week. She could hardly believe it.

I never imagined I could earn this much with my own hands, that moment changed everything for me.

Word of her success spread through the community, inspiring other young women to join skills training programs. Hina’s resilience and passion transformed not only her life but also encouraged others to believe in themselves.
Through the intervention of UNFPA and the skill training program, Hina turned her struggles into a journey of empowerment. Her story stands as a testament to the power of skills, perseverance, and the belief that no challenge is too great to overcome.

I used to think my future was uncertain, but now, I see endless possibilities ahead of me.
